Les Mis

Far From Miserable

The 1862 novel to the 1980 musical, Les Miserables, has finally be produced into a film, not to confuse this film for the 1998 version starring Uma Therman, Geoffrey Rush, and Claire Danes. Not This Cast! This movie is based off the musical production starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, and Russell Crowe. I'm sure a few are already scoffing that it is another musical and are definitely not into, especially film adaptations. Some sceptics might already be asking "what makes this any different from the others?" What makes this film different from the others is that the scenes were shot with the actors/actresses singing throughout the film instead of being dubbed by a pre-recorded soundtrack.

Facebook and Twitter are a buzz of the film as well. Being a musical phenomenom, the film has many people curious of the actor/actresses' singing skills. A tweet was stated that the actors has taken a full year of vocal coaching. A promotional video was even added to the thread to show behind the scene commentaries with the stars. https://twitter.com/LesMiserables
Facebook has a lot of posters and contests to for fans to delve into as well.

Be sure to check out this film coming Christmas 2012! It would be a great film to watch with the family over the holidays if you want to avoid the other possible blockbuster films like The Hobbit.

Hitchcock

The Master of Suspense

Remember the movie Psycho? How about Birds? Are you too young to remember those movies, or did you think they were just too corny for your taste? Well whether your knowledge or palette favors those classical horror flicks comes a background story of the famous director Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock is the "love" story between Hitchcock and Reville and the creation of Psycho.

Anthony Hopkins casted for the role of Hitchcock looks amazing with his signature pout and shiny head. It seems proper that this famous creator of suspense is played by none other than Hannibal Lecter. Mrs. Reville will be played by Helen Mirren, The Queen, as well as Scarlett Johansson as the ill fated victim Marion Crane of Psycho.

The movie is slated to be release on January 10, 2013. Be sure to check out the neat cut out poster boards at your local theater. There is an photo opportunity to have a knife dangling over you in the infamous Bates' Motel shower scene.

Life of Pi

Worth A Piece?

From director Ang Lee who brought us Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain is delivering the 2001 prize winning novel Life of Pi. Ang Lee has a great visual eye when it comes to directing. Storywise it can be hit and miss.

Now I don't know much about this book (and I really do want to read it), but here is what I gathered from the trailer. Life of Pi is a story of a young man who appears to be Indian with a Hindu background. The carrier he was aboard capsizes and ship wrecks. He is stranded on a life boat and other floating materials from the ship with a tiger who survived as well. His life is then taking under a magnifying glass as he deals with his humanity, existence, and survivability.

The trailer is visually pretty and can definitely bring a tear out. The video is a bit cryptic and yet explains a lot. I would rather have the trailer be this way as many movie trailers are revealing way too much of the plot and story lines. In the end, one will be left to wonder if it is worth even watching the film at all.

Aside from trailers, there are few ads running around mobile ads. On Facebook, there are only a handful of pages for the film. Some are fan created but the one that stood out is filled with many posters and quotes from the book. A lot of fan art provided and a few videos from YouTube showing the films openings in other areas of the world. There are a few TV spots as well that I happen to fumble across. Some of those TV spots are already saying that the film will be the next Avatar. That seems to be a little far fetch if you ask me (though I do think Avatar is a bit tiresome these days), but one can never know until they see it.

Be sure to check out the film or read the novel by 21 November 2012! This would be a great Thanksgiving holiday film to treat your family and loved ones to.

Bond 23

Bond Isn't Falling Any Time Soon

It's time again. Ian Flemings's James Bond is back with another heart pounding action spy film. Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty), is James Bond's 23 action flick. Daniel Craig is reprising his James Bond for the third time under the five movie contract. Judi Dench will be returning as well to play the ever so stern and witty M. Since the casting of Daniel Craig as the new Bond and as a reboot of the series, Q the imaginative inventor of MI6 will finally make his appearance since his "departure" in The World is Not Enough. Q will be played by Ben Wishaw who recently played Robert Frobisher in Cloud Atlas. Javier Bardem will also be in the film as Silva, the film's main antagonist.

Skyfall is everywhere these days through trailers, TV spots, commercials, and the film's theme song titled "Skyfall" sang by British singer-songwriter Adele. Heineken even promotes the Bond through countless eastereggs through one of its commercials. Multiple pages have been created all over Facebook. The pages promoting many movie stills as well as a chance to turn in a photo to create a mosaic of Mr. Bond. That is an interesting ways to get people to be more interaction with the film as well as the page. It can gear fans for their excitement of the film.

Skyfall is being released this Friday on November 9. Be sure to check out this new adventure!

Frankenweanie

Heartfelt Story About a Boy and His Dead Dog

Disney and Tim Burton's latest film Frankenweanie is a over the top film fun for both children and adults. Director Tim Burton, also known for such films as Edward Scissor Hands and A Nightmare Before Christmas, puts together a hodgepodge of memorable classical horror characters in different shapes and sizes to tell a story of a young boy and his dog. Victor Frankenstein and Sparky are two inseparable companions who spend all their time together making short films and being each other's best friend. One unfortunate day, Sparky is involved in an accident and passes away. This encourages Victor to resurrect his faithful pal as being away from Spark is unbearable. This lovable story is littered with "colorful" characters, each bringing an array of laughter to the table.

The trailer itself explains the whole concept of the title Frankenweanie. However, it lacks the supporting characters that help progress the movie forward. I have seen the movie a few days ago, and I got more than I expected from the trailers. Now I'm not saying the trailer should have spoiled everything, but I think it would have helped to do a mini-showcase of what characters to expect. I haven't seen many marketing of the movie itself, unless I happen to miss them. However, every time I see a TV spot or posters, it always involved ParaNorman. ParaNorman seemed to have more of a marketable approach than this film.

All in all, this movie made me tear up on a few scenes. I really recommend watching it as it will not only make you laugh, but it will make you want to come home and hug your furry companion.

CLOUD ATLAS: Book to Film

MOVIE WILL DO JUSTICE?

Cloud Atlas Trailer

Cloud Atlas a best selling novel since 2004 has been produced into a movie by the Wachowski brothers. The Wachowski brothers also produced The Matrix. The plot which may not be clear to people who has not read the book itself, and the trailer does no justice in explaining the story. However, as a fan of the book, I find the trailer to be suiting. Cloud Atlas is an intricate plot of six stories weaved together spanning from different eras of time. Each character is somehow connected through different forms of writing. For example, the first character narrates through a journal who is read by the second character.

The cast consists of well known actors/actresses. Many familiar faces consist of Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess, Hugh Grant, and other players who play multiple roles for each era. For instance, Halle Berry is a journalist, Luisa Rey, during the modern era who is later a native in a post-apocalyptic time period. How the film will combine the stories together is beyond me. I am expecting a lot of changes to be made to make the film flow and expecting new ideas from the producers.

As a big fan of the book, I am highly anticipating this film. I may be biased in how I might judge the film, but the film has a lot to live for. I am pleased with the cast choice for the characters, especially for a character named Somni-451. I could only hope they do not stray too far from the actual story line and possibly clean up some confusing plot points in the book. As the trailer seems promising, one can only hope the Wachowski brothers deliver an exciting movie like The Matrix.

Movie 43

AN ALL-STAR CAST FOR A FLOP?

A movie that brings a slew of A-list actors and actresses coming together to make a movie of what could only be a ... mess? The trailer doesn't present much except introduce a reel of crazy lines and surprising cameos. The plot is left to be desired as there seems to be a lack of one. I could only break it down to an array of story lines that "might" eventually come together. Seeing that the film is in a comedic genre, I can't tell if this movie is a parody or a new breed of comedy.

The choice of title doesn't explain much, but it does pique my curiosity. Surprisingly to know that Elizabeth Banks, star of Hunger Games as Effie Trinket, is also one of the ten directors of the film. It is left to wonder if she was one of the "brilliant" minds that thought of putting this movie together.

A few interesting points in the trailer is the use of Gerard Butler (300) as a small leprechaun. Kate Winslet (Titanic) and Halle Berry (Monster's Ball) also makes an appearance, but her role is not explained. It's enough to make me somewhat interested. The film is being released by "Rogue Pictures" on January 25, 2013. Check it the cast list on IMDB.com.
