Life of Pi

Worth A Piece?

From director Ang Lee who brought us Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain is delivering the 2001 prize winning novel Life of Pi. Ang Lee has a great visual eye when it comes to directing. Storywise it can be hit and miss.

Now I don't know much about this book (and I really do want to read it), but here is what I gathered from the trailer. Life of Pi is a story of a young man who appears to be Indian with a Hindu background. The carrier he was aboard capsizes and ship wrecks. He is stranded on a life boat and other floating materials from the ship with a tiger who survived as well. His life is then taking under a magnifying glass as he deals with his humanity, existence, and survivability.

The trailer is visually pretty and can definitely bring a tear out. The video is a bit cryptic and yet explains a lot. I would rather have the trailer be this way as many movie trailers are revealing way too much of the plot and story lines. In the end, one will be left to wonder if it is worth even watching the film at all.

Aside from trailers, there are few ads running around mobile ads. On Facebook, there are only a handful of pages for the film. Some are fan created but the one that stood out is filled with many posters and quotes from the book. A lot of fan art provided and a few videos from YouTube showing the films openings in other areas of the world. There are a few TV spots as well that I happen to fumble across. Some of those TV spots are already saying that the film will be the next Avatar. That seems to be a little far fetch if you ask me (though I do think Avatar is a bit tiresome these days), but one can never know until they see it.

Be sure to check out the film or read the novel by 21 November 2012! This would be a great Thanksgiving holiday film to treat your family and loved ones to.
